Why Mum Communities Are a Lifeline (Even the Facebook Ones)

Hi mama,

When I became a mum, I quickly realised something — there are a lot of things you just can’t talk about with your “non-mum” friends. Not because they don’t care, but because they genuinely can’t understand yet. If you tell them your baby’s poop changed colour and you’re worried, they’ll probably look at you like you’ve lost your mind.

That’s where mum communities come in. For me, they started online — Facebook groups full of mums from all over the country, awake at all hours, ready to answer your question at 2 a.m. without judgement. Whether it’s “Is it normal for my baby to hiccup this much?” or “Has anyone else cried over accidentally waking the baby after finally getting them to sleep?”, there’s always someone nodding along on the other side of the screen.

These groups are more than just a place for advice — they’re a safe space. A place where you can be real about the messy, beautiful, exhausting parts of motherhood without fear of being judged. They’re where I’ve learned that I’m not alone in my worries… or in my wins.

Sometimes, these mums you’ve never met will be the ones cheering you on the loudest. They’ll recommend products that actually work, share hacks that save you hours, and remind you that you’re doing an amazing job — even when you feel like you’re failing.

Motherhood isn’t meant to be done alone. And if your village is made up of women on the other side of a Wi-Fi connection? That still counts. ❤️

With love (and a full inbox of mum group notifications),
Renata (Ollie's mum) 💛
