Our First Big Outing With Ollie

Our First Big Outing With Ollie

Hi mama,

When Ollie finally got all his vaccines, we decided it was time for our first big family outing: a picnic with friends at the Botanical Gardens. I had been planning it for days, writing lists of everything we would need, and preparing myself emotionally to be “that mum” — the one who says please don’t rock the baby or please wash your hands first.

I thought of everything:

  • A hat for Ollie (since he was still too little for sunscreen).

  • Bottles and formula, carefully measured and packed.

  • His favorite toys to keep him entertained.

  • Spare clothes, nappies, wipes — the works.

I used our Baby Ollie “CarryNest” Travel Duffel Bag, and honestly, it fit everything perfectly. It felt good to be organized, to know that whatever happened, I was prepared.

And you know what? It all went so smoothly. Our friends were kind and respectful — no one tried to grab Ollie out of my arms, no one hovered too close. They gave us space, and I could just breathe. For the first time, it felt like we could go out as a family and enjoy ourselves, not just survive.

Of course, in the end, I realized I had packed far more than I needed (isn’t that always the way?). Half the things never even came out of the bag. But that’s okay. Because the point wasn’t just what I carried — it was the peace of mind that came with being ready.

That day showed me something important: yes, outings with a baby take planning, but they can also be joyful, memorable experiences. And those first memories, out in the sunshine with Ollie by my side, will stay with me forever.

Still learning (and overpacking),
Renata (Ollie’s Mum) 💛
