Milestones Are for Us, Not for Them

Milestones Are for Us, Not for Them

Hi mama,

When you’ve been a mum for a while, you start to realise something: the milestones aren’t really for the babies. They don’t care if they roll over at four months or sprout six teeth by their first birthday. They don’t care if they clap on cue or wave goodbye when asked.

We are the ones who laugh and cry when they finally do it. We are the ones counting the months, waiting to hear “mama” or “dada.”

Our babies? They’re just doing their thing. Exploring. Learning. Putting anything and everything they can find into their mouths — clean or not. They don’t measure time the way we do.

So maybe, just maybe, we should take a step back. Enjoy every little moment with them as if time wasn’t important. Forget the mess. Forget the toys scattered across the floor. They’re having fun throwing them. That’s learning too.

If the pile of laundry is making you anxious, leave it. Go outside. Take your baby to the park. Watch the world through their eyes while you can.

Because tomorrow, they’ll be grown-ups. They’ll pack their bags, travel the world, and you won’t see them for months. And when that day comes, you won’t remember the piles of washing or the sleepless nights. You’ll remember the sweet moments. And those are the ones that matter.

Because these little everyday moments — the clapping, the giggles, the toys thrown across the floor — are the ones we’ll want to remember forever. If you’re like me and love keeping these memories close, have a look at our Memories Collection in the Baby Ollie Store. It’s all about saving those fleeting moments in a way you’ll treasure for years.

With love and perspective,
Renata (Ollie’s Mum) 💛
